Just wanted to say thanks so much to the two guys that stopped and gave me their space blanket while I waited for the ambulance on saturday! I didnt catch your names or your faces... but it really helped a lot!

This is the reason why I mountain bike, Thanks lads

it's small enough to fit any saddle kitbag. Mega props to those who do have the foresight to carry one or two. Dont need a cold day to need one of those. lose enough blood cos an open fracture ruptured a big vein or artery, it be starting to get really chilly really quickly.

although really off-topic (I apologise) but what would be a good "first aid" kit too carry then?

I carry a space blanket, some bandges, a few plasters and some antiseptic . Also a tin of plastic skin ;)

who carries space blankets when they ride?? good thing for you they did. so what happened?

I know right?! i was so surprised... I broke my collar bone just on the little jump going into "my roots" had to wait about 20/30mins or so in the rain for the ambulance ( all 5 of them  ) - so the blanket really really helped!

Thanks again anonymous!

My space blanket insulates my Camelbak bladder and helps keep it cool.

Smart idea, I'll do the same right away!

You could win a pair of fancy shoes from some cycling magazine with that tip

Hey I'll get right onto it. The space blankets are cheaper at Dischem than Cape Union Mart. A man can never have too many pairs of shoes...Alternatively I can submit the fact that I wrap my bombs in duct tape, in case I need some for emergency repairs, also protecting my fingers from frost bite and my ears from an annoying rattling sound.

Weren't you allowed to get someone to drive up and fetch you? I didn't bother calling the ambulance they take too long, both times I got someone to drive up to fetch me. You can get the key from the house near the Arboritum. Unless they weren't there then I can under stand the long wait.

Hope you don't have to have an op and you recover quickly.
