In recent light of the complications of hosting the race at Eden, I suggest the following:

I have posted this already and some of you may have seen it but I really think this needs to be hi lighted.

I really think we need to form some type of fund, supported by the riders. I have mentioned it to some people and they seem keen.

We need some form of interest bearing account whereby we can donate either a once off fee or a recurring debit order, it doesn't have to be much, like R50-R100 a month, so that we have a kitty to help support our races. In the period where there are no races the account can accumulate funds.

Think about it, example: R100 a month from one person = R1200 a year, 20 people commit to it = R24000 a year. This money can go towards event costs, if no one is prepared to help the "Downhill" Community we need to help ourselves. I think a lot of people leave the sport because of lack of competition.

We all know that land access is an issue but funding is also a big problem. With regards to land access I think we need to start approaching Private Land owners for the use of there facilities, which will come at a cost. Maybe for a committee of sorts to handle these issues.

I do realize that not everyone has that much money lying around but as I stated we need to start helping ourselves.

Sorry, I know I have put two or three suggestions together but I could write a whole page on this.

What do people think? Maybe there is something in the pipeline and I just don't know about it

To be honest, Eden was starting get a bit boring.

Anyway Stellenbosch Municipality have already declared Eden for development years ago.

Great initiative and will help the sport progress and not just survive.

You definitely need the funds for new venues. Many landowners welcome the idea of having tracks on their farms, it increases their exposure and security. But many are greedy!

Your idea for an interest bearing account is a sound plan where donations can go etc, we have to start looking after ourselves.

Im starting to wonder where the sport can go and for that we have look more towards towns like Worcester, Franschoek, Swellendam, etc. Yes I am aware of distance and fuel consumption.

But if you can go away for a whole weekend with special deals working with the farms, might breath new air in the sport. Look whats happening in the UK...entries are going for 50 pounds and SOLD OUT in a matter of hours, just because they have tracks built far and between. Some of that money is going to a trust fund especially for tracks and races. But then the marketing is also bigger there.

I have listened to many racers over the years and many have great ideas and dont know how to implement them, but the majority wants new tracks for a change and a challenge, but around Cape Town. All want to play, but not pay. They rather pay R500 at a jol, than pay for a race.

Unless the World Cup comes to Western Cape, which will be a huge boost and exposure to our sport.
