Rear light and bottlecage

Hi

I am trying to figure out what the best way is to fit a good rear light with my seatpost bottle holder. When I fit it at the moment it becomes a little hidden and don't want to take chances.

Anybody here using the same sort of configuration and have any ideas?

Thanks

Difficult to say without seeing your setup.

I moved the rear light clamp further down the seat tube. Luckily the clamp is big enough to fit round it.

Why don't you buy one of those small Rav X lights with the elastic strap and put it on the back of your helmet. It works like a charm, is very bright and sits up nice and high for visibility. Costs about R60. You could also put it on your bottle cage I am sure.

That is if you are staring straight infront of you. I see people with these clip on ones on the jersey pockets. They bend over and the light is only visible by planes.

Get a Fizik saddle and fit the fizik rear light that clips into the saddle.

you wont be able to get the bottle in our out with that, not enough space.

I dont trust these R60 jobbies, they are only visible from 5m away. Spend some money, ensure your safety and that you are visible.

Some of them come with an adjustable elastic strap to put around your arm. You could use it that way, or use the strap around the bottle perhaps. I think mine are RavX.

2 x LED's. 50m no problem

Thanks guys

Maybe the best would be to raise the bottle cage and change the angle of the bottle cage, I've got one of those Topeak clamps that can be adjusted.

Any advise on what the best light might be, considering buying the Blackbrun flea as I do feel that there is a difference in what you use, I used to use the Knog, but feeling a little unsafe with only 1 LED behind me, and as Tankman mentioned, it is so important at what angled the motorist sees it.

I use these. Very bright. 3 lights backwards and one either side for side view.

A few manufacturers brand the same thing with their logos. Unbranded they go for about R60 but I could not find them and had to fork out R130 for a Rav-X one. The reason why I did take the overpriced one was because I use one light on 2 bikes and don't want to move brackets. If I bought another brand/design, I would have had to get another clamp which normally means a complete set.

YES problem! A car traveling at 120km/h takes 80m to stop.

That means he would have to start breaking 30m before he can even see you

Probably if it is your primary light. It's not mine. 50m was a guess anyway, I am sure it's visible from further. Unless you are using a magic light 700lm tail light, most red lights are very similar if the batteries are fresh?

Personally I think if you're cruising on your bike at night in 120km/h traffic, you're looking for trouble. But then again, one can't always pick the route (or the drivers).

I've got the light on the back of the helmet. I can't see it so I can't really comment on it's effectiveness, but no close shaves yet.

I have been using these lights for the last 4 years come rain or shine on the road as well as MTB's

not the lightest, but if you want visibilty then these lights have 5 LEDs' with major visibility and 4 flashing modes. They are close to R100-R150 which is a small price to pay for your visibility/safety. The claimed 800m visbility is pretty much accurate so not marketing hype. The rounded shape of the lens ensures the light is spread at a wider angle increasing the spread. The bracket will fit almost all seat posts and is easily adjusted horizontally and vertically.

Use it/Dont use it

You could get a clear bottle and a water proof light. and put the light in your bottle, would be pretty cool.

OR

Why don't you mount the lights to your seat stays?
