I am starting to feel the love between cyclist in this thread.....

Fruity - sorry to break this, this is as good as it gets. Start the car payments, bonds, kids school fees; doing a real days work with responsibilities and then still not affording to do races. The bright side is there are plenty of rides and trips to be ridden at no cost or on a very limited fee. Enjoy them and select your races.

Haha, i guess money will always be an issue, and if i had to sell my bike how would i do the races smarty pants?

Compare it to runnung races, scary to see how we are being shafted

running races are cheaper as they attract far larger fields than most cycling events (particularly mtb). If dropping prices to half would attract fields twice the size then we'd also be quick to complain about congestion and incompetent riders.

My personal solution to the cost problem has been to be picky about the races I ride and I don't participate in those which are too far or offer bad value for money. We're extremely lucky to have so many races in the cape and thank you to most of the organisers who get very little in return for the effort they put in.
