I saw this in the RoadbikeRider newsletter, what is it and what does it look like.  Is it a necessity for us fun riders, and will it work on a MTB.

"More than one rider has complained that the chain winds up on the bottom bracket shell too often.  Fear not, because there is a solution that's low tech and easy to install. It's called a chain deflector. Its job is to guide those flying links to their intended position on the small ring.

There are two deflectors that work really well. The Dog Fang (my favorite, about $15) is made by Deda Elementi, the Italian company renowned for its light and strong handlebars and stems. There's also the Jump Stop ($12) made by N Gear"

I also have one, came with my bike.

I have never lost the chain off the inside of the small ring.

Not sure where you get them.
