I am not trying to bad mouth CWC at all here, but when I enquired about RP at ASG, they did spesifically say that if I buy from CWC they will not cover it under theur waranty.

 

Don't know about the behind the scenes politics, but that was said to me in a mail.

 

No politics. CWC aren't an official dealer. Simple.

As far as i know Giro and Bell do crash warranties. others only do workmanship defect warranties, so basically it boils down to fine print.

 

Yes and I beleive the only reason they do so is because they do R&D with the lids they get back that people have crashed with.

 

Why would anyone do a warranty for something that you have effectively broken? If I crashed my car I wouldn't go back to VW and ask for a new one so why would I think differently about a bike helmet? I must say I really don't think you've been hard done by at all.

I bought a Rudy Helmet from CWC in December when I was on holiday in the Cape. 2 months later I had a nasty accident and my helmut was ruined. I went to my LBS "SouthBay Cycles " in Centurion and they replaced it for me at the 35%.

There is a difference between crash replacement and warranty policies.

 

The original poster wrote - it survived a minor fall intact, but with a small hairline crack on the inside. No problem, I thought – everybody tells me about the brilliant Rudy Project service, but just to make sure that I had a warrantee I phoned CWC only to be told that these helmets did not carry a crash replacement warrantee.

 

so as I am aware of the difference in this case it's the same thing.

Somewhere something is wrong or a misunderstanding. Our policy on our imports states very clear that the products carry the same guarantee as per the manufacturer on condition that the client produce proof of payment. We have replaced many items already before be it Shimano, Campy, Mavic, Rudy ect if we get proof of payment. I hope u understand this.

I think what the big question everyone is trying to ask or talk about in different ways is. what is the warranty/ replacement policy with regards to Rudy project helmets?

 

do they carry a crash replacement policy and what are the cost involved with such a claim?

You gotlucky and SouthBay may not be refunded the diff from ASG as CWC bought helmets are not covered... Lucky you. Hope for SB sake they don't lose the money as I doubt they'll get the refund from CWC

I really enjoy buying from CWC and have done so on a number of occasions.

 

As long as products bought were priced better than at my lbs, I have never really been hassled by the fact that some products sold by CWC were not supplied to them via the so called “authorised” SA distributor …………

 

With a local distributor adding no manufacturing value and playing mostly the role of handling agent at what is rumoured to be a substantial cost passed on to the LBS and/or it’s customers, I have never quite understood why in this era of global trade and internet sales, the concept of an authorised local distributor still exists or have any hope to survive in future ?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what has the crash replacement policy in this case got to do with "grey"

 

You do not have a crash replacement on this product no matter WHERE you bought it.....

I doubt they knew it was a CWC import.

It does not matter if we import it. We carry the same guarantee as the manufacturers. Our suppliers abroad is the official agents or distributors of the products that we import. We just replace it and they replace it again in our new shipments.

So you are cutting out the middle man and thats why it is alot cheaper?? yay! :clap:

Heard something interesting yesterday but I am not sure if it will apply to cycling.

 

Under the new CPA it does not matter where you the good( bought it yourself on Singapour or imported it etc) as long as it is a genuine product ( ie not a fake).

 

The distributor will have to honor the warrantee.

 

Like if you buy an iPad in the UK and have a problem in SA, any distributor here has to assist you.

So maybe Specialized will have to honor warenties does not matter where you got the bike. Or Scott, GF etc.

Not at all. I have often posted that the CPA is not as all-encompassing as you imagine or were told. The CPA only applies to "any transaction within the Republic". Bringing something into the country yourself is another version of parallel importing. You will not be covered under the CPA.

Doubt they did, but if ASG checks serial numbers as they say in the warning on their website, they will see that the helmet was not bought from them, and not refund SB.

 

Just to clarify something : I was under the impression that the crash replacement guarantees are given by the distributors and not the manufacturers. I was told my Giro helmets were replaced by Omnico in the past. And I distinctly remember that the "Crash replacement form" I had to complete was an Omnico form.

 

Care to shed some light on this?

 

CWC - Do your helmets carry a crash replacement policy or only the usual guarantee agains manufacturers defects?
