Jip sea point pool still there. Salt water (not sea water) which I prefer (to chlorine). Also in summer you can swim in the Waterfront canals. From opposite the Audi garage to One and Only and back. Think it is about 1500m

that's the plan for once a week to have an open water swim. got the map from the ATC website.

Now this I find very interesting ... do you need to apply to swim there or do you just pitch up ... ?

as far as I know you just pitch up there, it's like cycling on the road I guess :)

Like the road ... you mean the guys swim in white speedo's laugh.gif

When I went for swimming lessons, I used Long Street. Great pool. Cheap too :) .

Just make sure you wear sloffs / flip flops in the bathroom. But other than that, its a great place to swim / train.

There's also a security guy that unlocks all lockers. I really felt my stuff was secure.

Long Street is a great pool - always clean, but sometimes busy. esp. on hot summer days during school holidays. Only problem is parking which is why i cycle there.

Used to go to LS on my way to work, just about 4 old chaps doing breast-stroke in the morning. There are no lanes so, for some reason, it can get quite choppy (good open water practise). The water's tolerably warm. The change-rooms are very basic, like school. Don't go there at school holidays or weekends, you ca't go a metre without some kid jumping 2 inches in front of you.

Just confirm with ATC that you can swim there whenever you'd like. I think it's only available for certain times and then you have to have a specific swim cap otherwise the guards along there will make you get out.

that's my plan! is there a secure place to lock up the bike there ?

The old codger who takes the money would let me bring my bike inside and lock it up outside his cashier's cage.

good question and are the lockers big enough to take a medium to big back pack?

Could make for a nice commute in, shower, swim and then shower before going back to work again routine.

What are the times like?

I agree on the 'busy'. I cant remember if its R7 or R14, but for that price, I suppose you cant complain. :)

Im now training at Virgin Cape Gate, and lately there is this unwritten or worded rule to share the lanes. Sucks, we all need training time I guess.

I usually lock my bike up inside against a metal fence. I've also forgotten my lock and been allowed to wheel the bike into the pool area and left it against a wall there.

Lockers are big enough for a fair size bag, and caps not compulsory.
