SRXY Posted August 31, 2011 Share Hi, I'm looking at getting the 2012 Merida 903 as my first road bike (up until now I've exclusively mountain biked). I plan on using this bike for the Ironman 70.3 in East London in January. Any thoughts/comments/alternative suggestions would be much appreciated. Specs and pic below. Longbarn Killer Posted August 31, 2011 Share Merida = good quality bikes at good prices. You can't go wrong.
mr_stig Posted August 31, 2011 Share Nice bike. I have the 904 with the standard components and managed a full Iron Man. I keep wanting to "pimp my bike" and upgrade the wheels, seatpost etc. but found nothing to moan about with a stock-standard bike. If you plan to get clips and a forward-facing seat post for triathlons you should check how easily these components can be added. I found that my seatpost would slide with a shim. Enjoy the bike! Soggy Posted August 31, 2011 Share Cant go wrong with Merida man. I ride the Road 880 and even on its standard Sora components it never failed me. Very good quality.
SRXY Posted August 31, 2011 Share Thanks for the replies guys....what would the equivalent Scott/Felt be?
Eugene Posted August 31, 2011 Share Scott Speedster S40 and (I think) a Felt F85. You may find the Scott to be a bit more expensive. Not sure on Felt pricing.
slowtwitch Posted August 31, 2011 Share From all my bikes, incl. high spec'ed race mechines and more, I loved my Merida 903 aka training rig the most
Audible Anarchy Posted August 31, 2011 Share Silverback road bikes are great value for money - you could prob pick up something full carbon with full 105 10 speed for around 13 / 14k if you shop around? otherwise the meridas are awesome a lot of the owners I've met are very happy with theirs.
