(Deon) Posted September 5, 2011 Share Burry said that their bikes were 1kg heavier than most of their competitors but was confident that the benefits outweighed the weight penalty. There.. it was bound to come out.. All the words in one sentence. er *cough* as I was saying, designers can pack in a bit more weight for the sake of confidence of reliability. Take the fear of mechanicals out of the equation, and you see results!
Tumbleweed Posted September 6, 2011 Share Take the fear of mechanicals out of the equation, and you see results! Nonsense. His run of bad luck has nothing to do with a "fear of mechanicals". It has to do with bad luck, nothing more. I watched him race at the opening round of the WC where his campaign got off to a bad start. Despite a mechanical on the first lap, he rode out of his skin - fearlessly - to try haul the leading riders back, just as he did in Champery. What the post you quoted illustrates is that he has the freedom to choose the equipment he uses, meaning that he chose what he thought would work. How you get to that proving that he fearful of equipment failure is beyond me.

Ahem *cough* splutter - they chose rear suspension to save their bodies and "normal" tyres over prototype race skinnies to reduce the risk of punctures - the "designers" had diddly squat to do with anything.
