Dude , how can you say that ! 2 of the best race bikes and had were steel .

I believe the operative word is "were"! I just watched the '76 Paris Roubaix and all the Gios Torinos, Benottos and Eddie M's were steel ;-)

I still have just as much fun on my steel hardtail Voodoo as on my Trance X with 5" travel...and do the same drops and jumps on it. Obviously it'll always be heavier than alu/carbon but IMO anyone who isn't top a top SA racer doesn't need that light weight to be competitive btw their friends. I would love more quality steel frames to be available to the market with modern geometry!

He he he.

I'm not trying to pee on people's parade here or put people off steel. I think it's a great material and steels frames are fantastic in terms of all day comfort, "feel" and tradition.

In terms of out and out performance, speed over comfort and "souless" frames - carbon has to be the material of choice.

The right thing to do is own an out and out race machine that satisfies the need for speed as well as a steel machine (preferable single speed!) that satisfies the soul.

Please don't read this Sean Bandenhorst - it creates declassification :P

Wow beautiful bike, how do they get the joints to flow like that if they are welded joints, are the pipes flared on the ends?

filled with brazing rod (or whatever they use) and then sanded down to a smooth finish.

Look at this Cinelli. Also steel.
