Ah, you know you love me.

Also, what should I do with my mtb? Am I allowed to ride it?

howzit ric, another newbie here. thanks all hubbers for the advice and making me actually wanting to post something and ask stupid questions ;)

I'm also looking for a 2nd hand MTB hardtail (thats what my triathlete mate suggested if you wanna mix road and dirt for a start, also slicks for the road and mtb tyres for the trails). I've been on the site the last few days looking at the classifieds and would like to ask advice here if I see something I like. There is a Merida TFS 100 being advertised for R5000 but if you compare that to the 2011 model in the buyers guide on Bicycling there is no price difference. Could it be that the additional stuff he/she added makes up for the price that he wants now?

I think going for 2nd hand is good advice ric, like one of the posters said, you can pay R5000 for a new bike but for the same price get a much better bike that's only one year old that would have cost you R8-9000 a year ago. Especially for us newbs who dont know what we want yet. Once the bug bites hard and deep, I'm sure we're gonna go looking for something bigger & better.

thanks all so far

Nice one on the Rick Rolled. and thanks for the advice on getting a second hand bike. Will definatley have a look around in the classifieds section.

I actually went through to Cajee's Cycle Corner and asked the guy there for an entry level bike. He showed me a GIANT and a SCOTT. They were both +-5500. However, I saw the Nomad Seventy for way less. So thats why I though it would be good to ask questions first before buying junk.

If I change my budget to R6000, is there anything worthy out there, in terms of a new bike?

What I really should be asking I guess is... What the heck should I be looking out for?

As always, thanks for the assitance to my newbie self.

Check out the Titan range.

Good value, made by merida.

See the pic of my latest bike...use it for taking the little hubber on rides.

also bought one for the MRS...

Paid about 4k new each at cajees boksburg.

Once again, thanks for all the responses.

In terms of size, im about 6"2. (approx 90kg). The guy at Cajee's used some funny crotch stick :D to measure what size frame I would need, and apparently Im looking at a Large size.

With regards to my fitness level. Its probably not great, but I will ride every weekend.

Will keep checking the classified for something!

Size looks right and with that amount for riding planned entry level will do fine. The R6k budget also seems OK. Especially in second hand, as most bikes in this range are as a result of ppl being bitten and upgrading. Enjoy the hunt.

Dude I'm 2.05m and about90kgs and im on a 29er and i love it, finds it suits us taller riders well.... dont cut the 29 stable out of the equation.....

My mate (1.9m) just bought himself a new Momsen AL129 and its a great bike, cost him under R6K.... check it out, it was a great bike to ride, even after coming off my Dual suspension 29er....
