Hi All

So Im looking to get a new MTB.

Important facts about me

93kgs

Weekend warrior

45-50km races (normally 2.45 to 3hrs)

KZN, loads of races, singletrack etc.

Currently have Merida 120 (Deore spec, 14kg) XL frame

Important facts about what I want

R27 to R30k (no more)

Full Suss (100mm to 120mm travel)

26 or 29inch?

Carbon?

Less than 12kg

Not really brand specific, but am looking for some really good options to consider.

Some options would be great.

Thanks

Take a look a the Giant 29er fs. With the money you are budgeting, you can replace the standard wheels and bring it close to your target weight. I am a similar weight to you and I stay away form carbon MTB's, seat posts and stems.

I'm 88kg's - 1.84m

I have two carbon bikes - they all squeek and creek and crackle.... not worth it. any thing can cause it - from a cable that makes contact to the frame and vibrates and echo's over the plastic sounding like the thing is going to explode in two - to sounds coming from bb's, cranks, QR's, seat posts, pivots and everything else in between.

stay away from carbon if you want to stay sane.

in most cases carbon is not much lighter these days anyway. i replaced a top of the line dual sus alu fram (weight 2.850kg's) with a top of the line carbon dual sus bike - it weighs 2.5kg - 350g!!! wank wank.... it sounds *** to ride, i hate it. in fact you can have it.

im tired of having to pay R750 to have it rebuilt every time and 2 weeks later it creeeeeeeeeeks again.

I would suggest you look at the silverback 2012 range- seen the 26" mercury 1- it's totally totally wicked, 2012 XT gruppo and expected to retail for about R 24k with super schweet paint job.

if you really really want a CLOWN bike with beeg wheels then the 29" silverback mercury elite is priced about the same, just has different rims..... paint job not nearly as hot as the 26er imo.
