Does anyone have Garmin (or other) total ascent stats for the 126k?

The course was quite brutal, consider that it was only 20k longer than the Amashova and it took the top boys an hour longer.

A mate saw one bloke blown off his bike by a gust of wind too.

The Route was pretty brutal...I would rather go race the PE route at SA's again....and that says a lot!

Close on 1800m ascent, no flat road to speak of, and hot. oh and the flat road was either super rough or it was broken tar.

One of the hardest courses and races I've done. Feel better now. Great experience. Don't worry Luke, there's always a next time :)

And for everybody's interest - humble pie doesn't taste that great!

The 126km route was tough but I've ridden harder courses, what absolutely killed me was the heat, my Garmin was registering 40 degrees on that last 10km climb, it was murder. I got a total of 1767 ascent.

Feels like I've run the comrades this morning

If there is a next time for this course (SA's?) I'll make sure I taper down from at least 3 weeks of proper distance and climbing. I haven't been able to put in the hours this year and it showed yesterday.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying it was easy, what I meant was the heat got to me more than the terrain but you're right it was still flippin hard.

Well done to Jules winning the 30-34 category.

Jules definately pulled off the ride of the day that's for sure!

Super impressive! And that on a alu bike :o

We all thought he was insane to go so early, but the joke was on us when he pulled it off!

The best riders delivered in their age Cats yesterday looking at the results after hearing when and how the breaks went. If anyone was strong enough they would of gone with when the attacks went and break(s) were formed.

I heard the 30-39 cat break went with 80 or so km to go leaving both SA Champs for dead scratching their heads and yet the bunch werent strong enough to bring it back?

They should race SA's on this course as it will bring the true best riders out and not the wheel suckers who wait for a sprint.

From what I heard they will be racing SA's for the Vets & Sub-Vets on this course...

I agree, this is a course where there is no place to hide and the strongest man will win. Very good challenge and will show who truly has the legs on the day.

If I do make it to race SA's I need to start training yesterday. :)

I agree - this course will sift out all the weaker guys and the top guys will finish at the front! I for one was dropped with that attach at the 50km climb. I learned my lesson well! But I'm moving on.

But just a quick remark regarding for example the SA champs you mention - just remember that you don't always know the full story. They might not be in top form in terms of peaking and things like accidents could have had an influence on their training and preparing. Just saying you might not have all the facts. If Contador pops on one climb, does it make him a weak rider? Maybe an extreme example, but still.
