Super D is AM meets DH. Fast, more technical than trail without going FR and usually quite a long run.

From the intreweb:

Question: What is a Super D race?Over the years there have been a few different mountain bike race formats to come and go. A new type of race that is gaining popularity is the Super D.Answer: A super D race is best described as a downhill cross country race. They normally lack the technical danger packed elements of the downhill and in most cases, have some significant pedaling.Usually, a Super D is a timed event and can have either individual start times or a mass, Le Mans style start where everyone goes at the same time.

This is a great event a lot of people can enjoy. There isn't a whole lot of climbing so you don't have to be in great shape, although it doesn't hurt, and you don't need a $4,000.00 downhill bike to make it down. Any bike will do for a Super D race, but this category of racing is where the all-mountain/trail bikes with 4 [ED: don't think so], 5, and 6 inches of travel can really excel.

If you're thinking about getting into racing, but you think you might lack the endurance required for a typical XC race, The Super D is a great place to start.

in the middle of that 5km route is one biatch of a climb... there's also some flat pedally bits at the top. this was my first run of the day - i took it really easy on the pedally bits (checking the scenery) and the climb took me a while

this route is only 5km though. seems most of the US super D routes are longer.

perhaps we should start a western cape superD series: contermanskloof, jonkershoek, majik forest, tokai

Flip ... I never knew there were slower riders than me out on the trail ... or were these guys just taking it slow to get a nice steady camera shot?
