So happy with the boys this morning, India had a chance to take this game away from us.

Now we just need to bad out the first hour or two with some caution against a swinging ball and pile on the runs!!!!!

A little concerned our opens havnt seen much action lately

If Alviro fails today would you select QDK? Seeing that our next test is a few months off it would be nice to see what QDK can do against a quality attack like India's before the Aussies get here in Feb.

I think QDK should be tried.

Not as opener alongside wicket keeping duties.

Number 5 or 6 def.

So that would mean that either Faf or JP will miss out. Unless they drop Alviro, move Amla up to 2 and De Villiers to 3, Kallis 4, Faf 5, JP 6, QDK 7...

Yeah

Can't remember when I last saw a wicket keeping opener - too demanding mentally and physically

Alviro hasn't got many scores for some time - I think QDK should learn to play his natural role up front. To much pressure if SA are 4 or 5 down for 180. I don't think he is that type of batsmen who can work with tailenders and help the tail wag.

I don't think Alviro should be dropped just yet. Give him a fair chance. Let QDK play local 4 day series (like he is doing) and make runs then he will be in contention.

Why does everyone seem to think that test cricket and one day cricket is the same thing? Scoring runs in ODI's means nothing when it comes down to tests......

Again, the role of the opener is to take the shine off the ball. Rather pick de Kock at 7 if need be...

QDK will more than likely be given a chance in the Australian series at number 6/7,

watched an interview with Kepler.

It will be a tough choice of whom to drop is what he said and QDK may not even keep.

Might be placed as a specialist batsman until his glove work is up to scratch for test.

It would more than likely be between Alviro and Faf who gets dropped and AB will stay at No.5 as he will maintain the gloves.

No one is saying he should be dropped just like that but his last couple of innings have been poor. He is not young anymore and now would be an ideal time to blood a youngster in - we are on top and winning and it is a lot easier to include a person here or there as opposed to when you are down and out.

Can I ask you rationale about him coming in at 7? Do you think he will bat well with the tail? Does he have a great record against spin that im unaware of? At this stage AB will still keep so he wont have dual roles.

Taking the shine off the ball is not the only duty of an open. I think the bowling attack of an international attack is far superior to the people he is facing at local level currently. I never understand the mentality in SA sport sometimes - same as the boks playing people out of place - moving our 2nd best centre to wing ahead of countless great wingers for example.
