I believe they should put the wetsuit option in the ahtletes hands (unless its above like 24 degrees...)

It is optional, you dont have to wear a wetsuit.

Next thing we'll be discussing if doping should be allowed

No wetsuites at Kona, so start preparing in a speedo :-).

Question are you the Rubber version of the Red Haartbees and Table Bay Shark?

To elite swimmers this might sound weird, but to all mediocre and weak swimmers dying during the swim stage of a triathlon is a real fear.

Dooood!!! Do you enter a MTB race if you still ride with training wheels? Do you play golf if you only have a putter?

Come on, if you really need a wetsuit to "not drown" the you should not even CONSIDER to swim open water. Spend some time in the pool and live with the rules.

Reminds me of a quote from Gone in 60 seconds.

"Dam woman, you can't drive. I mean, I can't swim, so you know what I do? I stay my black ass out the pool!"

Agreed that a wetsuit does not and should not give you the security that you will not drown. If you cant swim the distance without the suit you should not enter. I can definitely feel the wetsuit helps me saving energy because it helps me float better, but I don't use it to help me finish the swim leg, that's ridiculous! I will not go near the water if my confidence is on whether I can use my wetsuit. It's dangerous as well.

Hard as it may sound but if you are not able to swim without a wetsuit then do not enter, harsh... I agree. Tri is a journey and u challenge urself more than most sports.Start swimming thru something like Total Immersion etc and u will be surprised. Swimming is mostly about technique and once u have that going the confidence will come. Imagine what it will do for your confidence not only in sport but in Life if you conquer that hurdle!

Swimming is my weakness, and I always joke with my friends that I'd drown without a wetsuit, but I'm not being serious, I train in a pool without a wetsuit...in salt water one is more bouyant. If you cant swim without a wetsuit...then in my view you cant swim by yourself...why not wear a polly-otter or armbands...and put fairy wheels on your tri-bike. I might sound harsh but maybe get a swim coach before you think about entering a triathlon

BTW: I do agree that they should make the wetsuit legal/illeagal decision the day before and send out an sms or email, not knowing is unnecessary.
