How easy or difficult is it to replace the fluid? Is it something I can do or should I rather wait and let my lbs do it?

Not difficult at all but do yourself a favour and get the proprietary Avid bleed kit, anders skep jy 'n lat vir jou eie gat. Just follow the kit's instructions to the letter.

I respecfully disagree with Hardtailoke.

Avid brakes are the pits. The bleeding procedure is tedious, unpredictable and unsuccessful a large percentage of bleeds.

Don't do it unless you have to. Why would you want to replace the fluid in the first place?

But like he says, buy the kit and follow the instructions to the letter. But don't expect instant success though. It is a bitch.

well don't want to really replace just top up... New bike but the back brakes are really weak, and the brake only "takes" after the lever has been pulled about half way

Put aside a day of your time and do it yourself. After some time, you'll get the hang of it. Like JB said, Avids are a bitch, but I would always encourage anyone to do the DIY thing.

I have this, it works. Follow the instructions. PM me your email address, I'll send you the Technical manual from Sram. If you don't do it like they say you should, it is a bitch, but if you do it right it feels amazing.

LBS will charge you about R150 for a bleed, the kit costs R499 and Dot4 Oil is very cheap, like R40 for 500ml

thanks :)

The kits have been out of stock.

It should only take you about an hour. Sometimes 2 hours if you have to do it twice. Sometimes 3 hours if you have to do it 3 times. Sometimes 4 hours...

You get the point about Avid brakes yet? :P
