It was a shop here in the cape. don't want 2 name names. Think he may have been one of the young guys that helps out now and then.

you sure he wasnt advising on ensuring the pressure is ABOVE 2 bar with a tubeless conversion? He might have been warning against burping.

I tip the scale at 80Kg and ride 1.6-1.8 bar, works for me... just dont know why anyone would ride tarmac with this MTB...

Your remark is surely based on my post that I do tarmac training on my mtb. Why not? Besides my Stumpjumper, I also own a roadbike (Tarmac S-Works SL4) , which is reserved for racing, longer group rides, and the occasional speed training. Other rides you will find me on my Stumpy (every day), cause I enjoy the ride.... just don't know why people must always judge, but then again considering your hubname, it makes sense.

I do 150k's work and back each week on my Bianchi MTB. Only draw back I have with using my MTB on road is that the tyres dont last. I love riding my mtb, be it on or off road.

I have covered about 4500km (mostly on tarmac) on my mtb fitted with Specialized Fast Trak LK 2Bliss tyres, and they are still very good. My Rocket Ron's were worn out in half that distance.

It must be my tyres then, I ride with Killer Bee's which I got at from Cycle lab, paid like R150 each. Thank you for the replies on the tyre pressure. I will be sure to adjust mine accordingly.

I think using the correct compound is important here, a soft compound is going to wear quick on tar but will provide better traction offroad. So for riding on tar its probably going to be better to go for a harder compound like 60a and above.

Thanks guys. Going to do koeburg tomorrow. Will run it at 2.2bar. Will see how it dos in the sand

SOOOOOO...... My rim and spokes answer my question form me. Looks like even before i posted this question 2 of

my spokes got damage from riding at Majic forest(i think it was there be cos it was the only technical riding i did the last 2 weeks) with low bar's. Be cos yesterday as i was riding at Koeberg i saw my wheel started buckling. One spoke came out and was bent and the one next to him just came out.(at the bearing not at the rims side)

I did Koeberg at 2.3bar. Still looked 2 flat for my weight. So will be going for 2.5bar.

So guys if you see n rookie like me that is about my weight running tubeless.... Tell him about 2.5bar MIN.

Thanks for all the help.

tyres: Xkings continental

Protection or UST?

If protection, you should run them at higher pressure than ust's.

I run my WTB weirwolf front ust at 1.7bar and wolverine rear ust at 1.9bar. (86kg's)

Prefer lower pressure for better traction but if the terrain calls for it, Ill adjust the pressure accordingly.

When out on the trails I ride my tires by "feeling" and not by a set pressure since I don't go out with a floor pump ;)

I burped a Fast Trak at a lowish pressure and deformed the tyre so bad it was unusable. That said, grip problems aside too, those tyres have a good life like you said. Had a set on my F900 that did many, many miles.
