Recently cracked a frame of well know brand.

Heard now that this is a common problem.

Under warranty they agreed to replace the frame - that sounds great.

Make sure you read the fine print in your warranty - IT EXCLUDES LABOUR !!!

In my case, head set did no longer fit nor did BB.

So after this incident I am out of pocket by a cool R 1000.

Yes I am getting a new frame but had the old one not broken I would have still been riding it and had R 1000 in my pocket.

Be aware !!!

From all the other stories here on the Hub you seem to be very lucky about getting it all sorted out and getting a new frame. Is it not the same as you are riding now that they need to replace the BB and head set?

How old was the frame?MTB or road?

I cracked my Trek Fuel EX8 2008 model. Just Fun sports replaced it with the 2011 Fuel EX9 frame and included a BB30 and new headset to fit my non-tapered steered and normal external BB.

Yes it took a hell of a long time for them to settle the replacement claim but I was very pleasantly surprised and happy when they, without putting up a fight about it supplied the parts I needed to make my old components work on the new frame.

If your LBS is charging you more than R300 to rebuild the bike try using mine...PM me for details. Anyway it's a small price to pay for a bike that looks brand new and in the case of a dually you score with new pivots, shock etc as well.

Enjoy your new ride.

2012 frame now has press fit BB and tapered headset.

And agent will not allow you to build yourself so you are forced to pay LBS.

Mtb Frame was 18 months old.

Suppose I will just have to pay !!

Which brand was this? Try a different LBS first and see what they quote.

Another option that might work is to say you are not happy to pay for the new components, then the LBS can physically not assemble the bike.

if you're getting an 'upgraded' frame I wouldn't mind paying in to get the right parts to make it work, how would you feel if they found an old 2009 (or whatever) frame in the back of the warehouse and gave that to you.......

All worked out fine in the end and I now have a brand spanking new frame.

By the way it was an Giant Anthem frame and they met me halfway as far as new parts were concerned at the end of the day.

So all considered a happy ending.
