When you've owned a morewood you'll know ;)

Yes patrick might have left, but morewood's 2012 line up is full of local hand made gravity machines.

It's only those sissy-boy xc bikes that lost the plot :P haha

The downhill frames are still made locally. Interesting that you mention intense cos the brands are very similar. Both small in relative terms. Both hand made (for the most part).

I've ridden an M9 and a Makulu (I own an Makulu) and they are both great bikes.

Patches ... I'd say go TREK SESSION! ... what a bike! ... Picked up my chicks one for R15k

Yeah, I like the lines of the session. The Scratch too.

Unfortunately Trek Sessions in SA are about as easy to find as shark poop! I'll ask the Trek agents if they can get a Session 8 frame in... other option is a UK site selling a new 2009 Session 88 frame for around R13 000.

dude that bike is a machine! ... if you can ... get it! I test rode one at one of those MiWay Mtb Ride before you buy jols at Giba last year. So there must be a demo model floating around somewhere.

Or look at getting a frame from overseas.

I wish Jo's bike was a medium cus then id ride it! :P but alas ... its a small (and has trek gravity girl stickers all over it! so NO)

Yeah... that 2009 one is well priced. I hope there weren't any drastic improvements (excl. the Session 9.9 carbon) from 2009 to date.

As for your better half's Session and the Gravity Girl stickers... if I could ride like one of the gravity girls I'd ride the bike and be proud of it! hahaha!

Thanks patches for that Devinci picture

Check out these

http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2590

It is the Canyon Torque FRX. The geo of the frame looks good and comes with a Cane Creek Double Barrel rear shock

Check out the completes while you are at it

It blows my mind how they are able to sell a COMPLETE bike with a CCDB, Kashima 40, Deemax Ultimate's and X0 drive-train for +- 36k. It's considered a "freeride" bike and the shock stroke is short by modern day DH bike standards. That's the ONLY negative I could find. On balance they are great bikes and great value IMHO.

Their main test rider Rob J (Curly haired rider in most of the pics on their site) often comes out here in the summer and rides with my mates and I. They are very nicely put together bikes. His bikes all run Marzo shocks and Formula brakes.

On a side note when Cadel Evans won Worlds he was on a Canyon.

There's also a German outfit called YT Industries that sell bikes direct to the public. Nicely specced and well priced but I don't think they can match Canyon.

2200 Euro for a FULL bike with a pretty decent spec sheet. The only thing I'd change are the Kenda Hideous tires and maybe that rear shock.

Sadly those were only on sale for 1 day (11.11.11)

But as you mentioned Omega... the regular Tues DH is well specced too for its price! Looks good too!

Just remember there is a 15% duty plus VAT to be paid if you buy a whole bike from overseas.
