Is it the one to stop the pin from sliding out? As then if the pin has a thread. Go and ride your bike. A hobby shop will have body pins that will fit there I think

i think it's that rectangular clip.

have to scout around in my toolbox, see if I have a spare as I have had J5s before.

go ride. its only purpose is to prevent the pads from falling out but they cant because the piston is still holding them in place

wrong wrt falling out. It's called a backing plate, and since J5s are NOT top loading, if they were to fall out, they would fall down toward the axle, not up away from it.

I think that backing plate keeps the two pads aligned within the brake. Each pad has two tabs. The 'arms' on that backing plate (as depicted by the plate below teh pad spreader springs in the third image above) locks the pads in place (but wont prevent falling out) to prevent them from moving back and forth within the brake caliper.

Without that plate, the pads will slide in the direction of wheel rotation under braking. While the pads will remain parallel with the brake disk because of the very fine clearances between piston and pad, and then pad and brake rotor, i'm not sure if rotate-before-brake is what a rider wants from his brakes.

He will have brakes, but it will be quirksome, and something might break. Eventually, of course.

btw Reteid: front or rear brakes are the problem?

then go ride, because it's a lot easier to avoid using teh front than the rear brake, and I'd advise u use the front brakes as an emergency option only.
