Just a word of caution.

If you believe that your order is going to need 2 or more boxes, ask CRC to invoice per box as opposed to 1 invoice covering both boxes.

Why?

My Post Office in their wisdom decided that I needed to pay VAT on the same invoice twice because my order was split into 2 boxes delivered on separate days. :(

I now have to fight with Customs to get a refund.

I did email CRC to suggest that they invoice per box hopefully they will consider it in future.

why does this sound so very familiar? Im' pretty sure someone posted up last year sometime about a very similarly sad situation.

But sorry to hear that thug. and good luck trying to get your money back. :(

thats exactly why i always say its better to use the dhl shipping and pay # couple hundred rands more... its faster, more secure, easier to track....plus they know what they are doing with duties and customs.

btw give www.probikeshop.com a try, about 10% cheaper than crc and they use ups express at about 39 euro per shipment, ive just paid that for 6kgs of components and a topeak workstand. btw i order on sunday evening, my goods leave on mon eve ajd i always get delivery before the weekend.

This happened to me last year. When I took it up with PO they said they'd need to send the second package, a bike stand, back to customs for them to open, inspect and make a call. I decided to pay the VAT on the spot. I took it up with CRC who refunded me the VAT immediately, no problem.

I scanned all the documents and have emailed someone at the SAPO, if I have luck with the refund, I'll post her name here :-)

Now that's good service, I reckon... Go CRC!

I've had this once before. I ordered a new wheelset as well as other goodies. The wheels came in thier own box and the rest in another.

I went to collect directly at the JIMC. When I gave them my tracking number they came outwith 1 long thin box (it was only at that point that I found out about the 2 separate boxes). I asked where the rest was (knowing that there was no way wheels could be in that box). They said that was everything. Then I pointed out that the shipping label on the box said "1 of 2", and that "2 of 2" was the wheel box. They said that a separate box has a separate tracking number and without it they can't find it for me, but it will be delivered.

I'd already paid VAT on the entire order and knew that they would charge me again if when the courier came to my office. So I insisted that the lady go back into the warehouse and find my big yellow nuke proof box.

After a total of 2hrs debating, them dragging their heels, and eventually just looking for the thing, I had it. They did charge me an extra R30 dispatch fee for the extra box, and it wasted 2 hrs of my day off.... but that was better than paying an extra R800.

I put a standard instruction on every CRC order.

" If more than one parcel, each parcel must have invoice to the value of it's contents only"

I have never had problems, but you do end up paying an extra R30 for each parcel admin fee.

HI guys if this happens do not pay the amount on the second box, ask the post office to send it back to customs for re-evaluation. Get the local tracking number then give customs a call and explain what happened, someone will then look into this and ask you to email/fax your copy of the slip you received from the post office where you did pay for the first package. Once they are happy that you did pay the first time your goods won't be taxed again but you will probably still pay the handling fee of around R30 again. Its going to be easier this way than having to try and get a refund after paying.

I had to do something similar on a package that I received this year and must say I was quite impressed by how they handled the situation.

You always risk the problem of the parcel going missing if returning it and also depends on how much in a hurry you are for the parts.

Lesson learnt!
