Yeah, to be honest its not even remotely interesting to me anymore, he doped, he didnt dope, I dont care......he made for some great viewing and he had some great moments, that's all that interested me,.... I mean he climbed straight past a doped to the eyeballs Pantani who was probably also high on crack cocaine at the time and was considered the greatest climber the world had ever seen,.... hell, he deserves a break just for that!!

,...... but for me, its over, its time for him to go, retire graciously, move over, get out of the limelight, go quietly into the night, I dont want to see his face on any more coffee cups, I dont want to read about how great he was, I dont need to hear him talk about the old days, frankly, I dont want to hear about him anymore, at all,..... his time has gone and its not coming back.

.........lets focus on the new talent, the Contadors, the Schlecks, the Gilbert's, the Cancellera's........... that's where its at now, not Mr Armstrong.

Anti-doping agencies could take action

Despite the US Attorney closing an investigation into the US Postal Service team and Lance Armstrong, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) head still expects that evidence gathered in the case will be shared with anti-doping authorities.

The agency today issued a statement from its president, John Fahey, who noted that the federal government's interest in the case centered around allegations of fraud - that sponsor money coming from the government agency was used for doping - but that any evidence of anti-doping rule violations by the team and its riders would be the domain of the anti-doping agency.

"...A large amount of the evidence gathered is likely to be highly pertinent to doping and WADA expects that this evidence will be shared with relevant anti-doping authorities for them to determine whether any breaches of the anti-doping rules have occurred," Fahey said.

Now that the federal government's investigation has concluded, Fahey said that WADA anticipates any evidence "can be handed over quickly for the anti-doping agencies to take appropriate action".

While doping for performance gain is not against the law in the US, Fahey noted that the country is a signatory to the WADA code, and it has also ratified a UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport.

Because the WADA code is a non-government document which only applies to members of sports organisations, the UNESCO convention was created to give governments a legal framework to address doping in sport, presumably paving the way for such cooperation between the federal investigators and the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

USADA CEO Travis Tygart indicated yesterday that his agency is prepared to obtain evidence from the government toward its own investigation "of doping in cycling".

Federal crime and doping are separate matters, notes Hamilton lawyer

Lance Armstrong has welcomed the news that the federal investigation into allegations of systematic doping at his former US Postal Service team has been closed.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that the investigation had concluded without charges. No explanation was offered for the decision.

The investigation was triggered in earnest in May 2010, when Floyd Landis confessed to doping while at US Postal, and implicated Armstrong and manager Johan Bruyneel in his outline of the alleged practices at the team.

“I am gratified to learn that the U.S. Attorney's Office is closing its investigation," Lance Armstrong said in a statement. "It is the right decision and I commend them for reaching it. I look forward to continuing my life as a father, a competitor, and an advocate in the fight against cancer without this distraction."

Betsy Andreu, the wife of Armstrong’s former US Postal teammate Frankie Andreu, expressed her disappointment that the investigation had concluded without charges being filed. Both Frankie and Betsy Andreu are understood to have cooperated with the investigation, led by Jeff Novitzky.

“Our legal system failed us," Andreu said, according to ESPN. "This is what happens when you have a lot of money."

The investigation was built around discerning whether Armstrong or other members of the US Postal team set-up had violated federal conspiracy, fraud or racketeering charges rather than establishing if doping had taken place on the team.

However, the US Anti-doping Agency (USADA) has stated that it is “looking forward to obtaining the information” gathered by the grand jury investigation in order to continue its own inquiry into the matter.

One of the most damning pieces of testimony to enter the public domain was provided by Tyler Hamilton, who offered detailed descriptions of doping practices on the US Postal team in a “60 Minutes” interview in May.

His lawyer Chris Manderson explained that while the federal probe has come to an end, the sporting case against Armstrong and US Postal remains open.

"The fact that doping occurred is a separate issue from whether a federal crime occurred,” Manderson told ESPN. “If (federal authorities) made a decision not to prosecute, that doesn't mean that somebody didn't cheat in a bicycle race.''

Anyone know the laws pertaining to grand jury testimony? Does it become public? Could make for interesting reading. Would love to know what Hincapie did or didn't say to them.

Reckon we'll know soon enough when WADA and USADA approach the court to get the testimony.
