If its the same accident i saw occur in front of me three riders were involved and appears to be touch of wheels, one rider looked like he came down hard but looked ok as he was sitting up, his bike looked bad. The other 2 had gotten up already and were checking their bikes.

Don't know if this was the same accident, mate of mine ( riding in Roadcover kit) was involved in an accident around that distance. He mentioned guys falling in font of him and he could'nt avoid them. He has few roasties on his back and his bike seemed ok. He did lose his glasses though and his bottle, both were gone when he was looking for them directly afterwards.

Its actually crazy how many accidents we have when racing in the Southern Suburbs. Hope all those riders are ok as there was lots of activity with all the Medics rushing around today

I actually think that a lot of it has to do with training. Folks enter the sport, enter races, but no-one ever shows them the ins and outs of bunch riding.

its especially noticeable in the flat races where the bunches are bigger and the less fit are able to hold onto the stronger guys. Its there that you notice the in-experience and ignorance of the people in the bunch. This is why I land up either pulling the bunch or sitting in the front 3.

I'm not sure what the solution is, perhaps a compulsory amount of hours of training with a qualified instructor before being allowed to enter certain races.

The accident I saw looked quite serious. Guy was strapped onto stretcher when I passed. It was on the stretch of road after the casino. Other than that I saw no other accidents. Plenty of punctures, same as last week.

There was a big crash on the homestretch, on the slight uphill straight about 12 kms from the end. Big bunch of C's and D's going at about 30kph. I just missed it, but it looked like about 10 - 15 riders went down. Must have been a wheel touch, not sure about injuries, just heard lots of carbon crunching as I swerved out the way

3 guys went down in the A bunch at about the 32km mark and there was another rider (possibly an Elite) down just before.

After last week, I'm happy that I finished safely.

Ahhh flat races - gotta love them. Big bunches with riders that are there because they can draft rather than deserving to be there on skill/strength/merit.

It can be argued that drafting in itself is a skill but personally I prefer races with "deciding" hills near the start that remove the fat and break the big groups up into managable proportions.

This from an 80kg rider who's best road skill is sprinting
