The problem is not cyclists nor motorist, it's South African's with their "I don't give a ****" attitude and their lack of fear for the law and respect for others.

Humans!

In my experience it tends to be a particular problem with the Human species found in this part of the galaxy, and the tribe on the southern end of the African continent seem to be leaders in this field of behaviour.

the dictionary said cycling is recreation..

Whatever bud, hopefully you're smart enough to know what I mean. There is no need to supplement my english degree with your dictionary screengrabs.

Looks like what I am saying is the we need recreation in recreation.. break it down as it stands and build it back up with a renewed vision..

Is it possible? That is up to you..

Erm, your misunderstanding was noted understanding was offered.. I feel like I am not smart enough to know your meaning.

BUT OK, we've been through this before and it turned out we agree.. Don't be an ass on the road..

What did I misunderstand? You paint cyclists as daisy sniffing recreationalists. For this reason you suggest we must defer to more important road users. This is 100% wrong. Do you disagree?

Just so everyone knows, this comment is directed at me..

I say was that if we want a better perception of this sport from the motorists, lets start the process by reeling in those who are making it worse for us.. i.e feeble excuses for why you will purposely attract bad publicity to this sport by disregarding the motorists and the law..

I don't have to say anything further. Just read his comment again!

Yes at you and Wannabe for always saying that we can improve the image of cyclist....I dont think it is possible.

I said, look at how the motorist behave WITHOUT cyclist around.....bunch off idiots...so my question was "if you remove all cyclist from the roads for a year" will the motorist behave = NO.

South African do not respect normal rules or each other.

If you don't want any part in changing the perception, that's fine too.

I feel you need help with your own perception. We're not all out there pedalling away just to get some exercise. In fact those who are, are in the minority.

My point. I don't care what you sniff, it is the attitude of guys like niner who think everything is ok..

My point is that motorists are on the road for different reasons to cyclists.. what the dictionary deems an explanation is not in my control. Do you see that I used the thesaurus as well to offer different options to recreation.. see sport is there.

Niner, here it is again.

Change your way and take cycling out of the reasoning for motorists frustration. You give the driver an excuse to harbour anger towards all using a bike.

Change starts with you bud!

I'm out. These threads are too much hard work.

I'm really not going to discuss the dictionary today. I have wasted enough time here already.

You must have heard of the bicycle - a utilitarian vehicle used for travelling from A to B, sometimes in the pursuit of sporting goals, but historically and also currently, mostly as a means of travelling from one place to another, for general purposes, and sometimes - as mentioned earlier on this thread - in the service of some kind of employer.

Much the same as the motor vehicle, just in a cleaner and more energy efficient manner. And sharing the same rights of passage on nearly every type of road.

Maybe Wikipedia will help, seeing as you seem to gravitate towards reference material:

Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide, twice as many as automobiles.[7] They are the principal means of transportation in many regions. They also provide a popular form of recreation, and have been adapted for such uses as children's toys, adult fitness, military and police applications, courier services and bicycle racing.

Note - a billion worldwide - that's a lot of tour de france hopefuls? Or maybe they're actually using them to get around. Not so many here though - you're fairly likely to get squashed using them.
