Note to self: do what you despise and sit wheel for the first half of the race.

A is going to be VREK fast.

Wheelsucking Slipstreaming is an important skill in cycling...

Then the time gap should be bigger to allow them a proper race

You racing your Bianchi yet? That pic looked awesome. Forgot to look on Saturday what bike you had on the back of the bakkie when I said hi.

So... if you're seeded in A, but the training hasn't quite gone acording to plan, should you drop a group or two before the start and hope to stick in that bunch to the end, or suffer for as long as possible in A and then limp to the finish TT style? Which should get you the best time?

That is a risk you take - sitting in a fast bunch means that you will go faster than what you would have in a slower group....... and also allows you to sit wheel of the group behind should you drop off and get caught by them.

An aspect that I have not 100% (more like not at all) grasped in the 2 years I have cycled <_<

Ja, but if you are going to be dropped and finish with the group behind, you might as well start with them and shave 3 minutes off your time. Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, it's quite a pity that they focus the majority of the attention on the elites and not on the ladies, SV and Vets

If you get dropped, the leaders of B WILL catch you....... I started in E last year and we caught C and D riders in their masses going up Chappies. Even some higher seeded guys that had dropped off their respective bunches.

My personal experience is that you will get a better time if start further back. If you start with A and fight to hang on, but fail, you're usually so knackered by the time the next couple of groups come past that you can't hold onto them either.

With you on that question...

E bunch caught the main D bunch just before Simonstown as we all had to slow up while Mr Ryan O'Connor and his tjommies/fan club decided what the front of the bunch should do next. Should they carry on giving him a "helping hand" or should they let someone else set the pace. Lot's of bitching going on from riders trying to get things moving.

LOL! Shows how much attention I was paying to the race at the front of E....... didn't even know that. Was just dodging wheels that we were catching and avoiding the Jubilee Square masses on the side. Well that and watching the laaitie that kept shooting off the front, only to be caught a little later. Think he came 1st or 2nd in the E bunch. Light and strong guy he was.

Eat some cement the night before the funride WC, HTFU and start where you are seeded... if you haven't trained properly - in the words of someone famous "Ag Shame!"
