Scooter69 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Bicycles are a new interest of mine so I do not know very much. I would however like to know if track events still take place at the Bellville Velodrome, or have they died out like so many other things in South Africa.Tks.

andydude Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Firstly the dates for March 2012 track availability are as follows: 14 to 57 to 13192223 to 25 SHARE with LAN26 to 2831 LEAGUE DATES We will have two leagues for March. The first one is: Wednesday 7 March. We know that it is the same week of the Argus, but there was a request that the date be upheld, since it is a nice leg loosener for the Argus, plus it is important to have as much racing as possible so close to WC and SA Champs. Please find attached the program for next WEDNESDAY. The second one will be: Monday 19 March. This will be the last one before Western Cape Champs and therefore VERY important to test all those equipment and legs before the Champs. The program will be finalized and then forwarded a week before the time.

There are a lot of rumours flying around, but the most plausible seems that they are keeping the velodrome, but that it would need restoration/upgrading for safety reasons (think new regulations regarding sports venues which even Newlands will have to spend a lot on!) and maybe aesthetics. This could take quite a while where the Paarl track will probably be used in the mean time.

Devmet Property Developments will also take over the management of the Velodrome and athletic stadium." Seems like the Velodrome and athletic track will be upgraded and not scrapped.

It is a test run for many riders before the Western Cape champs at the end of the month.
