So I changed my 10 speed chain on my road bike from Dura Ace to a Sram chain, on my first ride this am with the Sram chain it kept falling off on the inside and outside of the front chainrings, what gives, is the Sram chain slimmer? more laterally flexible? or is my bike upset that I am diluting my shimano groupset?

it's best to run shimano chains on shimano clusters, and the same logic applies to SRAM. Why? I dont know. just been told that, and very vaguely recall something i read abuot the spacing being different between the two manufacturers and fairly specific to how it mounts on the cluster cogs.

but if falling off on the front, did u set the FD up correctly?

The chain was upset that it got put on such a vrot groupo..... LOL!

Check your derailer bottom stop. The chain is stiffer because it is new so that could be a contributing factor.

Also, although this shouldn't happen, are you changing from 53/23 to 39/23? The lateral tension on the chain makes it overshoot the small chain ring and jump off.

Edit: typo

did you shorten your new chain so that it is the same length as your old one?

Also, that waxy substance that is found on new chains makes the chain "stiff" and can cause chain-suck. The best is to give the new chain a proper clean and lubricate with something less waxy.

Capricorn - I didn't touch the FD, I assumed that I wouldn't need to for a new chain.

Tini K - nope, no sloppy shifting or funny chain lines

Patches - Length exactly the same, I did clean and lube the chain as well.

I will adjust the limit screws which should solve the problem.

I run both a SRAM and Shimano cluster on my different wheels and shifting is not affected.

I think it may be that the chain is new and so is much stiffer
