Just seen a very good TV Advert

First of all, let me start off by saying that being an organ donar is a very personal choice.

 

It is not for everyone. Many people have religious reasons for not wanting to become a donar, some have other reasons.

 

I think my stance on being an organ donar changed when I found myself on "the list" waiting for a life changing organ, not once, but three times.

 

It made me realise the huge sacrifice others had to make and the selfless gifts they had to donate to me and others like me.

 

When my Father died, he donated.

 

When my sister died - despite dying from massive internal organ failure, she donated both corneas, bone marrow and 16 children in a burns unit received skin from her body that will hopefully take them closer to living a normal life.

 

When my Mother died last year, despite wanting to donate, they could use nothing from her body due to the nature of her illness and her age.

 

When i die....can you guess what they can do?

 

The point i am trying to make is this, If you have made a conscious decision NOT to donate your organs, thats fine. I get upset when people dont even think about it and all those organs go to waste.

 

Its the complete lack of discussion and decision that troubles me.

 

But if you are sitting on the fence and dont know what to do, perhaps having a family member sitting on the list waiting for the off chance that a generous soul donates and all the important factors line up will change your mind...it did for me.

I haver never been one for donating my organs, perhaps I am just one of those selfish dipsh1ts.

After watching this advert, I have to say, it's something I will consider, what use will me organs be when I am lying 6 feet deep in the sand.
