New or pre-owned road bike

Hi All,

 

I'm pretty new to cycling, been riding mtb on the road for a little while now but I am now looking to rather buy a proper road bike. I know other noobs have probably asked this question a thousand times, but here goes anyway. Is it better to buy a brand new bike, or should I rather spend the same amount of money on a pre-owned with a better spec?

 

I'm currently riding a Giant Talon3 and my budget is probably in the region of 5-6k.

For 5-6k i would look at 2nd hand.

2nd hand. you not gonna get much for 5-6k new. but could definitely get a fairly ok used bike. plenty out there.

Pre owned. There are some good buys out there.

semi hi-jack, I'm also interested to know what brands (2nd hand) should one look out for in that price range? I'm only interested in doing the odd road rice like the Argus and Burger, will still do most of my riding on the mtb.

2nd hand. I got my Felt 75 for R6k - total bargain and great specced bike as opposed to what R6k gets you in store.
