I have a good friend who broke his back as a result of wearing a leatt. But it also may have saved his life?! I heard the Troy Lee D3's are the best DH helmets to match with a neck brace... but that's some big dough right there! The problem is that it is impossible to know, if when an injury occurs, that the alternative unprotected damage would have been worse. I used to race in the offroad scene, and myself and the folks I rode with all wore them. One of my mates died (crushed brain stem) while wearing one, but I know of many others that were "saved"; looking at the extent of the damage to the Leatt etc it was evident that without it he would have died anyway.
