Apologies if this is already a thread somewhere else.

This morning they spoke about yesterdays accident involving the poor cyclist in Alberton. As you know the taxi pushed the car of the road and the it hit the cyclist so the poor guy didnt see it coming.

For some reason people started calling in and it changed to a "I hate cyclist" cession with everybody telling John Robbie how rude the cyclists are.

One guy said that he politely hooted to a massive bunch of cyclists on William Nicol (asuming it was probably the cycle lab group??). Then at the next robot when the group caught up the apparently spitted on his windscreen and swore at him.

Another guy phoned in and said he was tired of the guys in the cradle riding 5 abreast.

I have been cycling in the cradle for a long time now and I have never seen 5 guys next to each other.

Both the above accusations in my opinion seems a bit far fetched????

Any hubber sout there who have seen the above actually happen?

Typical. He's the biggest cyclist hating **** I've ever heard on the radio.

yaaaaa.... [boring icon here] Lead SA, drive over a cyclist , the message I get from these people is that there is no one else but them. I bet you its early morning, the roads are quiet, but Mr in his big luzury fuel gussling car own the quiet roads! when there is sufficent space for 2/3 abreast, and a car, they'll still attempt to drive as close to you as possible. You see grown up man in car = he is a very little boy inside

Ja I was just surprised as I have never seen 5 guys riding next to each other except in a full road closure race.......... In any case we would read about accidents if they do that cause those M-bikes will hit you in the cradle if you do the 5 thingy

I don't think the actual cyclist's are the issue - it's more the latest trend in SA which is ME, ME, ME!!!

Everybody is just pissed off because everybody else gets in THEIR way. Damnit! I'M trying to get to work so why are you getting in MY way?

This trend of "**** you mate - I'm OK" is rather alarming...

I've definitely seen Cyclelab 5-abreast in the Cradle. I have a pic here but not sure how to upload it. Admittedly a couple years old now, but it wasn't an isolated incident.

I have to agree with Eldron - we are all selfish on the roads. and it only takes one group of 3 cyclists riding abreast to hack all the motorists off. same as it only takes one taxi to pull in front of someone for all the people to be hacked off with taxi's.

The real issue: we are not a law-abiding nation, nor are we even slightly tolerant. The same motorist that flips off the cyclist will jump a red light. or do 90 in a 60 zone. But it still doesn't actually give us the right as cyclists to ride next to each other, which is, sadly, illegal.

So how do we sort out our attitudes? idunno, but i do love cycling and socialising!

Found it:

I think that's 6 abreast, maybe 7 if you squint.

You know, if the roads are dead quiet, why not ride like that, just look behind you for cars approaching, and get into 2 abreast

If the roads are that quiet, I recommend a threesome and 4 breasts at minimum.

Zook, I'll gladly take you along on the next Lab ride as a guest.

Safety & behaviour is very high on the agenda. please stock stirring with self-admittedly old and currently irrelevant photos. Surely you (even yours) have done some 'wrong' things in your past? Do you want that to be held against you all the time, and your current efforts to grow/fix/take responsibility for your/yours to be ignored?

I was in a car. I'd been trying to get around groups all the way. They were taking over the whole road, even on blind corners and blind rises, not even thinking of moving over. Now, I ride road and mtb. I used to ride with Cyclelab. I'm the most likely person to *support* them. What does a person who has to live in the Cradle think, who has that every weekend? Not excusable.

I don't understand it there is a cycling lane in the cradle so why don't just cycle in it?

Heman, checkout this thread I started:

https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/112694-club100/page__fromsearch__1

That was complimenting the Club100 guys because I'd seen them riding safely. I would have done the same for Cyclelab and I specifically said "really good to see the big clubs taking it seriously". I'm not for or against (again when I lived a bit closer I used to ride with you guys), but the person above said they'd never seen it, so I'm saying "yes I have, but it was a while ago". That's all.

If you could please find me a road like that with willing particapants I would sincerely appreciate it.

Yours in eager anticipation.
