My videos also have the knocking sound when I play them back

I would actually love to disable the sound...i use the waterproof backing for dust issues, not so much water protection, in that casing the sound isn't the best to be honest. Also I want to overlay my own soundtrack instead of Luke shouting..."this bike is soooooo dialed" the whole time

Still struggling with the .mp4 native import into Movie Maker...anyone had this issue before?...I know there is the conversion workaround, but it is a schlep.

Start to Google "gopro rattle" and it'll offer the helpful suffix "fix", so you know it's not a once-off issue. So Googling "gopro rattle fix" and you get things like this:

http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/forum/f429/gopro-2-internal-rattle-fix-101001/

Seriously? I have to do that? I imagine the warranty goes to hell if I do. Surprising, because one would imagine the de-facto lets-be-a-hero camera wouldn't have a systemic problem with rattling after, say, the first version.

Here's hoping only 50% of them have that noise and I can return this one since I only got it a few weeks ago. If not, that's very uncool.

I have this problem. At the moment I am using Quick time to do a very basic edit (clipping and ordering) then export to the right format and do better editing in WMM. To be honest I wouldn't recommend this route, its also a bit of a schlep.

I am waiting to get a better computer, and then I was looking at Pinnacle Studio HD and/or Adobe Premier Elements 10 (Any comments on these GoPro?). From what I have seen they look like good value and ease of use for a beginner.

The thinner double sided tape you get at any hardware store stuck either to the camera itself, or to the bottom of the casing, virtually elimanates the rattle as it presses the camera snug against the casing. just remove one side so it sticks to the casing, leave the strip on the top side or you will have a messy situation :P

But any decent editing software allows you to remove the soundtrack and to either leave it blank or replace it with audio of your choice.

Thx Covie, I'll try your fix. I just hope there is nothing loose inside the camera like Zook(I think) mentioned. I wouldn't be cutting my GoPro open to do an internal fix anytime soon :-P

BTW, I use the Sony SW that GoPro SA mentioned. Great SW IMO but not the easiest to use for beginners

I think there are a couple of different issues people have. The rattle in my situation seems to be inside the actual camera unit, i.e. when it's outside of the case and being held in my hand.

I hear you, but even with WMM i can't seem to remove the sound alltogether, I can just mute it and overlay something else. When it then gets saved as a movie it just takes up space, same with recording time...it would be cool if there is a function to disable audio recording on the hardware...can only hope for it in a firmware upgrade...hint, hint, nudge, nudge GoProSA :whistling:

PS I am sure with final cut or Sony vegas you can remove the audio totally but I don't have geld for the software, so I will just have to find shortcuts.

I wouldn't worry about the sound being recorded - it'll be a tiny part of the recording size. Think of the size of an MP3 album compared to a movie in HD, so e.g. 100MB on a 10GB file. Pretty much insignificant.

true...its my OCD kicking in...I hate recording and editing something I won't use even if its a 1MB.

I had the same issue but soon realised it was my glasses hitting my helmet and the shock was transferring to my gopro

Please let us know the results of this...

Ok so I did a mini test yesterday on my Lexmark class 4 16GB SD card and recorded a spin around the complex(about 4 min) in all three recording settings that would appeal to me

  • 1080 @ 30fps
  • 960 @ 48fps
  • 720 @ 60fps

Played all three back via VLC player....not a single frame drop between all of them in all the recordings, 1 audio buffer dropped on 720 but that isn't because the hardware didn't record it...but I don't need the audio anyway so I don't care about it to be honest. This test was done with a Lexmark 16GB Class 4 SD card from makro which goes for 199 at the moment...(dirt cheap  )

Then took a spin around with Lexmark 16GB Class 10 SD...in all three recording options....results were the same in VLC and no frames were lost. Also just looking at the recording side by side they were identical... The Lexmark 10GB Class 10 SD card goes for 599 also at makro.

In the test, I still prefer the 1080 the least, and the 720 the most...it has to be because of the fps, there is defnitely a smoothness to the 720 that 1080 doesn't have.

Like GoProSA said, the class is required when you use the 0.5sec photo interval feature, yes then you defnitely need a class 10, but for video...there doesn't seem to be any difference

1 class 10 card = 3 class 4 cards in zars...nuff said

Hi All,

What soft ware is available for editing GpPro Videos - I need something easy to use ?

You can get a nice hydration pack with padding or modify a bra. it should be soft to ware. :whistling:
