Storm 1. It is great value. Price dif between 1 and 2 is only 2k, but the 1 has way better spec for the money.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just got my Storm 1 yesterday, took her out for a ride at Oakvalley Grabouw...All I can say is that Its an amazing bike and it handles like a dream. Very smooth. Only thing I will be changing is the stem, bit to short. Don't know what you decided on but the Storm is by far the best bike in the R20d to R30d price range.

Some shop assistant told me that they have all been recalled due to faulty suspension mountings, what's the story with that?

Hi Speedy sorry for the highjack.

I am also in the market for a R20k 29er. For this money buying new, I think a hardtail is the only option (could be proofed wrong). After many hours of research and sleepless nights the Log standing is as follows;

1. GT Zaskar9R Pro (I've got a thing for GT hardtails) R19,995

2. Cube GTC Pro 29 (This came out of nowhere, very good looking) R20,999

or cheaper options with goods/same specs

3. Mongoose Meteore 29R Expert (above Silverback because its cheaper) R14,500

4. Silverback Vida 1 at R17,650

I have looked at other brands like Trek, Giant, Merida, Scot and Titan. To me they are all more or less the same as above and therefore do not feature on the list.

Now, is there something obvious that I am missing here that can overturn my logic and is looks of a bike part of the decision making.
