Hi guys

any idea why the distance counter would come to just about a stand still during the ride, the time kept on counting, the m climb and dropped incremented, but distance, not so much, started at about 6km in.

hoping Garmin tech can extract the correct information.

Ok, I can do that, but still don't explain the problem, except if the sensor is not picking the magnet up as i flies past.

Hopefully Garmin can calculate the proper distance etc from the gps values save in the gpx file.

Take it off, go with the GPS only. I was sceptical, but it works really well.

What happens is a) you've got the wheel magnet on which auto turns off the gps, then when the magnet slips/moves out of the sensor range the gps does not turn on.

B) in the case of riding indoors, you have the gps on and the wheel magnet, the gps overrides the wheel magnet and gives a speed of 0.0km/h (stationary riding)

Hi there

Ok, so we're thinking the magnet did not tricker the counters. At least the GPX file contains the gpx readings as I rode, accurate start end time, accurate moving time.

And I did notice the speed as I was riding was pretty accurate.

On the Edge 800 I had a similar problem , then replaced the battery after talking to a Garmin techie. Solved the problem.

Must say that the speed and cadence unit does not add much value fir me so will remove when battery fails next time

You mean the battery in the Cadence/Speed sensor pickup.

I dont have a Garmen, but the Briton Ryder 50. Toss the sensor and just stick with the GPS unit.......way better and no need to worry if that stupid magnet is actually in place when going through humps and bumps.

Yes the battery in the speed cadence sensor. You remove it with a coin in the slot and quick turn and the cap pops off. Battery available from Dischem . I think it cost about 20 Zars. One tends to firget about this battery as you charge the gps unit but eventually the battery dies.

Hope this helps :)

Can it be that the battery is dead after less than a year, maybe 20-30 rides?

Will replace anyhow, just trying to figure out what type of life span I should be expecting.
