Lightest aluminum 29er bike

What is the ligtest 29er aluminum standard bike you can buy from your lbs with good parts for under R17000

The Momsen AL729. My friend bought one and it came in at about 11kg's including pedals. Which would take it under 11kg by normal weight standards (most bike weights are quoted excluding pedals). Even worse is one of my other friends bought the SL729 (the carbon one) and its only like 100grams lighter but R 5000 more expensive.

Just because it is carbon it is not to say it is lighter than Alu. Fact! However plastic bikes tend to be better specked component wise these days so that may make the lighter. But comparing frames you will be quite surprised.

To second what Dick said, the Anthem 29er X0 is lighter than the Scott Spark Pro, and in this case, I'd say the Anthem wins in spec as well

My Anthem X 29 er came in at 11.5 kg.

X0 weighs around 12.5kg all in. A lot of weight can be dropped should you upgrade the wheels. For that reason I feel that the X1 + ZTR Crest wheels will be a better buy.

My cannndale flash Alu is pretty light just just over 10kg, but i paid about R22000 for it.

 

Cannndale are known for their light alu frames, there was one 2nd hand on the hub yesterday still, i know you said "new", just my 2c use it dont use it....
