David Zabriskie made up for his disastrous day on Sierra Road by crushing the Solvang time trial in a new course record. The Garmin-Cervélo man who was second overall in last year's race boosted his team's fortunes with the stage 6 victory, topping Levi Leipeimer (RadioShack) by 26 seconds and best young rider Tejay Van Garderen (HTC-Highroad) by 40.

It's the first time trial stage win for Zabriskie here in California. His only other stage victory in the Amgen Tour came last year in the stage from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, where he bested Michael Rogers and Leipheimer with a crafty attack in the final 500m.

"I knew the last stretch was a headwind and I had to go hard there. I didn't feel like I was super strong, but it was a good ride," Zabriskie said. "Today was obviously the best I've ever done here. I had no radio, just did my own thing and it worked."

Levi Leipheimer took the stage victory and his RadioShack teammate and race leader Chris Horner solidified his race lead in the queen stage of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California high above Los Angeles on Mount Baldy.

The duo demoralized the competition with a ferocious tempo in the final kilometres, crossing the line together, hands-clasped, to stamp their authority on the race. It was the first win of the season for Leipheimer while Horner maintained his overall race lead with one stage remaining.

Yeah, I havent really watched it but I saw yesterday Andy got shelled on a short 6 km climb.

If, with just over a month to go, one looks at 'Berto's form and in comparison, Andy's form - I would say Andy wont even get on the podium.

Agreed! Levi and Chris left him for dead up Mt. Baldy. Baldy and baldy won on Mt. Baldy - oh thats rich :D

Either Andy has a master plan or he is in a wee bit of trouble. Chris Horner is looking in fine form though! Hopefully 'the Shack presents a competitive trifecta to LeeeeeeOHpard and Saxo Bank at the TdF.

Agreed... Either Berto is in a class of his own, or the other contenders at the Giro are useless!!!?? Hoping Berto doesnt overdo it and has something left in the tank for July, if he gets an invite?? I dont know how long it takes for these guys to find there legs, but Andy needs to start looking. I'm not a big Schleck fan. i find him a bit bland, and lacking character, but i guess he might be suffering a bit of emotional stress with the death of his team mate?

Yeah, I am not much of a Levi fan, but I like Chris, always prepared to give it a go, but Levi was in fine fettle indeed up Mt Baldy, I think he prefers racing in the USA as he always do's well there.

Radioshack is having an aweful Giro at the moment, maybe its not their aim but with just over a month to the TDF which they would like to do well in, the giro team dont look very convincing.

HTC-Highroad's Matthew Goss claimed the team's first Amgen Tour of California stage, besting points leader Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) at the line with Greg Henderson (Sky) in third.

"It's a great way to finish off the week, Tejay finished as best young rider, and now we've capped off the week in perfect fashion," Goss said on the podium.

The Radioshack Giro team can hardly be considered their TdF team:

211 Yaroslav Popovych (Ukr)

212 Robbie McEwen (Aus)

213 Tiago Machado (Por)

214 Fumiyuki Beppu (Jpn)

215 Manuel Antonio Leal Cardoso (Por)

216 Philip Deignan (Irl)

217 Bjorn Selander (USA)

218 Robert Hunter (RSA)

219 Ivan Rovny (Rus)

Poppy is the only decent GC rider there and he kept getting into breaks - methinks Radioshack's aims at the Giro were purely training.

The California team:

Team RadioShack

1 Levi Leipheimer (USA)

2 Matthew Busche (USA)

3 Christopher Horner (USA)

4 Markel Irizar Aranburu (Spa)

5 Jason McCartney (USA)

6 Dmitriy Muravyev (Kaz)

7 Ben King (USA)

8 Haimar Zubeldia Aguirre (Spa)

I'm guessing this is the core of their TdF team...
