Yes, the 2x10 have a different BCD ..... I think it limits my options extensively.

 

Research shows the BCD is 120mm on the outer (big) ring

On a 2x crank, pick the inner or outer chainring position that will give the best chainline. Anything between 31 and 39 tooth chainrings will work, depending on your rear cog selection. Most guys on a 26'er run 32x16 and on a 29'er run a 32x20.

 

I run a 38 x 20 on my 26'er

I know it's a case of each to their own but do you think it's a feasible idea to stick with the 39t in front and use a higher toothed cog in the rear, like a 22 etc. Depending on the tooth options available? Don't really want to have to shell some Rand on a new chain ring when I could make do with what I have already.

The higher the tooth count, the more chain-wrap you have and less chance of dropping the chain - even if it's at a slight weight penalty

 

Use what u got and save for what you want.....

That last picture of a tensioner looks like a dual suspension single speed. Has any body tried this?
