GXP BB

Quick warning be for you go spend cash on a Hope bb. You need to remember that most Truvativ cranks are tapered so a Hope bb won't work

Stepped-down to be more accurate - the non-drive side is smaller. You do get an adapter (from Hope) but it's Al collet thingy and I found it worked loose, so stuck to the SRAM GXP for Truvativ Noir cranks i have on my Scalpel. On my second bb now in 18 months (about 1-2 marathon mtb events a month). Water is really the issue if it gets in, and you can replace just the bearings. There is a thread here somewhere how to do it on the cheap, or you can get a special tool. But GXP BB is a replaceable commodity check out prices on CWC and CRC.

The Hope one is nicely turned and made, but so what, its just the bearings that ultimately matter. I have Hope BB on my AM and commuter mtb.

Took the BB out tonight and it is the non drive side that is running rough, ordered another GXP from Buycycle, will try and get the bearings replaced in this one and then just alternate between the two, still cheaper than X1 Hope BB.

Thanks for the advice

kosmonooit is correct the Noir cranks won't take the hope BB. I believe there is a conversion you can do but have not investigated it asI will just change the cranks one day.

@rouxtjie The Noir cranks need an 8mm alan key to take off the crank arm

You need the alan keys with the very long handles to loosen it. About 30cm long. Takes about 20 min to take it off clean it and put it all back together. Is yours not the BB30 though? If so I can't take your BB out, I am still running the old external bearings, but you can still get the arms off and clean. I did mention beer :w00t:

I just put new chain rings on so I will grind away until everything falls apart. Basically I have resigned myself to the fact that i will have to clean it 1-2 times a month. For the Alan key set I got mine at some shop "Ardorf? or something like that. Next to Dunlop and Hi-Q and Toyota by the Malibongwe off/on ramp. Very good prices.

It is a 10mm hex, I got my set at builders the single allen key fitting is R120 or so.

You Fishers takes a shimano spec BB not BB 30 they call it BB92 very easy to take out and clean etc. Had one on my Fuel and it was a breeze to work on.

If this new BB goes as quickly as this one did then I am going to get a new crank maybe just a good old XT crank best value for money

Yes that is it...now I remember...XT pricepoint wise is great. Would like XTR shifters, brakes and DR's though, but I am going to stuggle to get that bolton in a groupset package.
