Is wearing a red nose and yellow curly wig compulsory, or does it come free with the bike?

Who makes the rims and where would one get spokes long enough?

Reckon I'd use straight pull hubs and then it is easier to make your own spokes. The hoops would be more of a challenge...

Found a guy making these and would love to try one out.

Singlespeed 36inch, makes the 29er look like a kids bike.

Nice rip of the Singular Swift.

  • 2 years later...

I finally got my hands on one locally. I've wanted one for years and it turned out that the local unicycle dealer (www.oddwheel.co.za) had one in storage, so having sold my road bike I had enough to buy it.

I've attached 3 photos showing it in it in various stages of my doing it up.

I just got the mud guards and chain guard back from the chrome platers and I'm well pleased with how they look. I swapped the hideous black brake lever for an old school stainless steel one and it looks much better. Beyond that I've not done much, swapped a few bolts for stainless steel and put football valve caps on.  I'm now saving up to get a decent paint job done on the frame. I'm also eyeing up a Brooks saddle and grips for it and would like to add a Sturmey Archer 3spd hub.

The first pic is of the Coker by the beach. At this point I hadn't done anything to it, I was just enjoying the blast of riding it, and it is a lot of fun!

The second & third pics show it with the newly chromed mud & chain guards and I'm very happy with the results.

Some observations based on other posts: the brakes are pretty awful. I tightened the front brake up and it's a lot better but the rear brake is next to useless. Braking on the Coker definitely requires a bit of forethought when out and about and can make some situations a little hairraising, especially when morons just pull out in front without looking!

I get asked a lot of questions about it and have even been chased by someone in a car who wanted to buy it. In the end I had to tell him that it wasn't for sale and would he mind leaving me alone, after all, I don't come to the gym and bust your balls when you're exercising!

Similar to my 32" cruiser - great fun. Especially with the old back pedal brake! I've got a few for sale, if anyone's keen.
