I often wonder about events where one also rides in the dark.

Is that because the participants prefer it that way?

I would very much like to do Baviaanskloof one day, Lomar looks stunning, but personally I think of that part of the world as wanting to be "experienced". I battle with really enjoying the surroundings while it's dark.

Many events nowadays contain some riding at night. Am I the only one who would have preferred it differently?

Yeah

Majority of events are day time events. There are only a few that are night events. If it doesn't suit you, don't enter them. There are plenty others.

Have you actually tried it? It will blow your mind

Yeah it is something else riding in the dark trough the Baviaanskloof or you favorite local route. The silence that comes with the night with the moon shining over you can be quite something!

Different experience than riding during daytime, to be recomended as it focuses all your senses on the task at hand. Dont know where you from Jakes but in Pta we have various organised night rides

24hr races are always a great experience, the camp, the lights, the cold...love it.

You should try one, always a successful event full of light hearted people.

Your local trail will look and feel like a totally different place. Obstacles look smaller, dips look shallower hence you tend to have more confidence over some things that scare you in daylight. You have little or no distracting peripheral view either so you are fully focussed on the briefy lit trail ahead. It thus forces you to continuously scan further ahead as you ride - which will make you a faster trail rider. Your brain has much less visual data to process which means at speed you are having to operate with quite a lot of instinctiveness.

All this is just adds to the fun and will improve your riding abilty. Riding in the evening is usually nice and cool and sometimes you swop sunblock for some antibug.
