I once upon a time had dreams of building welded frames - still have about a 450kg metrology table (for sale) to proves it - not to mention a mech. engineering deploma. Then did my in service training at the only company I was prepared to accept a job - Aerodyne space Technology - which probably help me as I new where I wanted to work and thus was easier to place! Composite materials the other end of the spectrum.

Eventually I became the project mangaer of the Lotus bicycle frame - yes the bike that Chris Boardaman rode to the current world 1 hour record in 96 of 56.375km in an hour! I was luckily enough to witness this event in Manchester live and now this year I will be representing RSA at the world Masters champs at the same track championship!

Now I am merely just an importer of Bicycle parts into RSA and have a lot of free time!

Sometimes reality is better than dreams!

But your craftsmanship sure looks good!

Nice work fella. Love that part of the UK where so many places had a guy out the back of the LBS crafting custom bikes. You'd go in get fitted, choose colours, finishes etc and wait for a legend to build you a SLX or a 753.

Mass produced bikes were only really found in Halfords and they made me feel dirty just looking at them. ;)

Awesome, execellent craftmanship and you are correct the local SA market would be to small to make a living. Bummer

Believe it or not it would be cheaper and more efficient to build frames here and send them to SA, opposed to building in SA and shipping to the U.K. This is based just upon materials.

That must have been very a satisfying project to be involved in. Where in S.A did the frame get put together?

I often wondered what happened to you Mattie, one moment you're podiuming in SV next moment you just vanished.

Nice work, let us know once there is a website up & running.

That frame looks so great, I hope it will never see a drop of paint.

I am pretty sure no colour was added, when we sent it to it's owner it had a clear coat of lacquer. For once my work was not hidden by paint

LOL! Maintenance reduced the width of the lanes by too much, so I take the safer routes now. Will be keeping an eye out for the website.
