Wyatt Earp Posted June 29, 2012 Share As an aside, one would assume cost, but why would they mix SRAM and Shimano components on a bike like that? Seeing some of these prices now (and yes I know that is a 29") makes me stoked I got my Silverback Phoenix for the price I did! Deore and SLX components for R4.5k They mix Sram and Shimano all the time except for shifters and rear mech.
MariusC Posted June 29, 2012 Share 26" Only reason is that you'd get a better specced bike. No way I'm buying that Trek "naainer". I won't quickly buy a 29er I was just proving Ross wrong Edited June 29, 2012 by BioMouse

Wallee Posted June 29, 2012 Share I've had my 29er for about 5 months now, and don't see myself ever going back to a 26er. However, I have a light-weight wheelset and light tubeless tyres. I don't think people realize what a negative factor heavy wheels and tyres are on a 29er compared to a 26er. If you aren't spending the kind of money needed to get strong, light-weight wheels, then 26 inch is they way to go. This is all besides the fact that 26 inch bikes are much better value for money at the moment, so I definitely say go for 26 inch.
Wyatt Earp Posted June 29, 2012 Share Doesn't really answer the question but thanks. Cry me a river, what more do you want ?The fact that a bike manufacturer buys at bulk and spec their bikes with whatever they can to try and keep the costs down. scotty

cajohnston Posted October 5, 2012 Share I got a new 29er Giant Talon for 5k and has been brilliant. Technical singletrack is a challenge, but everything else is just so much easier - rocks and sand are actually fun and easy now
Rouxenator Posted October 5, 2012 Share You're not going to get a decent 29r for R5k.Wrong, my GT Karakoram 3.0 cost me R4900 and its an excellent bike.
