Waterkloof Dh Track. How friendly is it to 120mm bikes

Hey all.

 

I was talking to some guy and he was saying that the 139 in waterkloof is a really smooth track with lots of opportunities to bail out and that you could do it and have a lot of fun on just about any bike.

 

is this true or was he trying to convince me to undertake suicide by 120mm travel bike?

There are chicken runs on all the obstacles, so you can go down on a road bike if you really want to!! Just watch out for the rocks and you will be fine!!

You can definitely ride 139 on a trail bike. All the obstacles have chicken runs and the track is in general very bike friendly (when compared to other Gauteng DH tracks).

 

There are a good couple of vids of the track so give them a watch and then you can make the call.

I have always wondered how fast/time, compared to the DH guys, will it take from top to bottom on a XC/trail bike

 

Also want to take my bike there sometime and face the horror

a while back I wound up on the old giloolies farm/ linksfield ridge dh track on my old 80mm HT with v-brakes. not good.....

I'd also like to ride 139 on my trail bike. One day soon when my wrist is strong again.

Intensebmx has hit pretty much everything on the 139 course using a 100mm bike.

 

k@k-en-drop, the pre-road jump, and even the 12m (which he overshot... crazy!). I think the only think he wasn't keen on trying was the drop into rock garden that runs next to the wall. But that section is a pinch-flat waiting to happen

Fucshia street, Waterfloof. The street is a dead end. You'll see where the track crosses the road. There will be a jump on your right hand side

but yeah... you know the 12m, and how fast a rider is going when they hit it. The act would be too brief to appreciate if it was shown at 1x
