Has Martin van Wyk not been a consistent performer the past few years.  I know that he no longer is a lincensed vet but elite as he wanted to try and get a spot on the team.

Seems like J Selebi runs track cycling to.....

And the story goes on and on.

I saw on the CSA website that the two mentioned riders is also included in the Team for Worlds View and Team to Taiwan and Chris Willemse in the Team to Egypt as well - and guess what - Chris Willemse Snr. is the Manager of the Team to Taiwan. What  have they done to deserve this ? Connections maybe ?

Selected...and went!! Yip, but that was a long time ago!!

Thanks for remembering G!!!

I dunno why you (Shortlegs) were not selected for the tri nations in 99. I'd have been super p!$$#d if I was you...

UnhappyThis is the way it is and always has been - especially for track riders where there isn't likely to be such a great outcry from the general cycling community! Remember how Robbie Dale always got selected for the "nice" trips although he was far from being the best trakkie of his era?

I dont think a team should be selected and go to the world cups or olympics. Rather spend that money on junior or development cycling (same thing for me)

Willemse and Thomas are 2 of our top trackies, esp the points, madison.

Louter were bad in DEcember in the 2 events in Paarl.

van Wyk is a bit old, we need to develop youngsters, rather send Ketterer overseas for a few months (junior last year, won the 1500m scratch at selection race)

Morne Blignaut is our fastest rider, but qualified about 44th out of 48 for match sprint at a recent world cup. So how can the rest go if he didnt make it.

At his prime Robbie Dale was good, esp madison, but to just send any rider to world cups is stupid, you need to get into things first.

I cant see how the guys going to USA will get good results.

But you guys that critisize the team, did you watch recent track events?

The idea of the worlds view is to get our top trackies some more road racing against top roadies doing base and doing a funride. The top road squads dont want to release their tems for national teams the whole season, and they pay the salaries, so most of them will ride for Neotel, Konica, MTN in the worlds view.

ITS ALL ABOUT CONNECTIONS, So get your guys in as selectors.

I agree with you as development is concerned.  It's a pity that Kyle Swain quit cycling. All that talent-gone because no development. What happened to Mathysen (can't pronounce or spell his name). I saw him as a Junior at 2006 Track Champs in Durban.  Rode all events and won all gold except silver in the Points. I hope he is in some sort of development squad.

Thomas was 25-mile Boxing day champ for 3-years and was the inaugural winner of the Neotel 25-mile scratch race. Suffice to say that he is a consistent performer on the local circuit. He also won the 2005 madison champs together with Willemse in Durban. Not bad for a roadie.

South Africa needs:

- a sustainable track cycling development structure

- track cycling sponsors

- big track events

- international competition

- more track specialists

if we want to be competitive at worlds and world cups in the future.

Reniell Mathyssen hanged up his wheels a week agoCry.

Hein Kroff is the National Track commisionner. He runs a cycle shop in Paarl. Look up the number and give him a call and ask him all the questions instead of wasting your time speculating on the Hub.

Why are we back to the old fighting thing again. Surely the cyclist did not select themselve.

Hammertoe - you must be a very dum and stupid cyclist in your time and still a dum person who have a very short memory.

1.  Commenwealth Games 2006.

Thomas and Willemse were both selected to represent SA at the games. They were the current SA Madison champs. Willemse had to withdraw due to accident in Cape Town and did not go to the games. I am a official in this province and keep most of these results and info.

2.B Worlds. Again both did not rode the scratch race. Thomas did get lapped because he missed the brake. Willemse did not rode the scratch race but got 3rd in the 4000 meters.

3.Hammertoe. Yes I see that Willemse snr is the manager to Taiwan but we all know that he has the best contacts in the East and Asia. Lets rather thank him for the invites that he get for cycling because CSA is doing nothing.

4. Lets be honest. Since Willemse snr stopped his 3 days and tri nations events track cycling went backwards at a very high speed.

5.Shorts legs. I do remember you. Shorts legs like a small man sindrome. Stop your crapp and start doing something for cycling.

6.  OLD DOG Robbie Dale. He was one of the best track cyclists at his time.

Hi fellow cyclist. Lets rather start this year on a possitive note and lets try to support all our cyclist. They dont sellect themselves.

What crap is Shortlegs causing?? He did not say anything about the Los Angeles selection.

Ok Wheels...to blatantly call somebody "Dum" and comment that they must "still be stupid"...thats not on. Not at all. I think as an official, you owe a couple apologies here.

Selection is always a very difficult thing to do, I understand that. Its not a job that I would want to do personally...as I am sure everyone will give you crap for the choices made.

Grootlem, I fully agree that we need to spend time developing the younger riders. Thats where our cycling future lies.

Lets all support track...please!!
