Help - clicking front wheel

Hi

 

Please can you advise. My front wheel is clicking but only if im riding it. If I lift the bike up and spin the wheel it doesnt click. Any ideas?

Sounds like bearings.

 

Take the wheel off and turn the axle with your fingers. Should be smooth. Also check for play In the axle.

 

What hub is it?

How old?

Last service?

+1....definitely sounds like bearings.

 

I had the same problem with my specialised when I got it new.....checked the bearings and found that one ball bearing was missing from one side of the front bearings....replaced and no issues.

 

Guess the factory missed that one

They are FF 4R Carbons. I bought it 2nd hand so dont know how many kms etc.

Check the axles and take the wheel to a good LBS to replace bearings.

Check backpack for little fellow from The Gods Must Be Crazy - failing that, bearings click when then need servicing or replacing.

I would buy some silicon spray and "attack" the wheel with it Spokes, nipples, hubs, etc

+1 plus it's much cheaper than bearings. If the clicking continues after the attack then go the bearing route.

 

Also - sounds silly but check the magnet and pick up (if youo have an old cable computer) - sometimes they come in contact only when there is weight on the wheel.

 

If the click timing is consistent then chances are that it is not bearings...

Also, if you have disk breaks, don't rule out the option of the disk on the break when there is a little pressure.

You should be able to hear if the noise is from the brake, cats eye or hub though.

Just keep the spray away from BREAK surfaces........ They may just not work when you need them and brake you.
