The SA marathon record is about the same as the 'slow' time they ran today. I'm sure our record was set on a fast course, etc etc blah blah.

The winning times for our local marathons tend to be just under/about 2:20. Personally, I'm not surprised by the times our athletes ran. Pretty much on par.

 

Not really, both April and Mokoko have run 2;08, 2;09 before so the time was not the problem, in fact they said they expected a 2;08 pace so it also wasn't a surprise for them.

 

I think the nature of the course was the issue, a bit bumpy and lots of twists and turns which had to be negotiated and slowed the time, so I think the straights were brutally fast and they struggled with the changing tempo, but pace wise, they can both run a 2;08 time.
