Just got this from Netcare 911:

A cyclist is fighting for his life in the Steve Biko Academic Hospital after he was struck by a light motor vehicle on the Moloto Road near the Zambesi Road junction in Pretoria last night. The cause of the accident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation. Common cause information suggests that the man had been cycling at the roadside when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The force of impact saw the rider flung from his bicycle. Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in a critical condition, having sustained severe head and lower limb trauma. He was lying near the crumpled frame of the bicycle. He was intubated and placed on a manual ventilator before he was airlifted by the Netcare1 Aeromedical Helicopter to the specialist state facility for further treatment.

If ever there is a road that begs for a separate, barried & decent cycling line!

20 years ago it was safe to ride a bicycle on Zambesi / Moloto. I used to ride around the dam almost every single day. How things have changed.
