Noisy chain and cassette due to shimano sram combo?

Been riding my road bike for the first time in years and straight off noticed that there is more than the normal amount of chain noise coming from the cassette. its the kind of noise the chain makes on a cassette but instead of whir...its WHIRRRRR..... which is kind of handy as it warns pedistrians that someone on a mechanical machine is approaching but tbh i prefer stealth mode and could do without it.

 

Few years ago i had to put a sram cassette on because shimano did not have the gear option i was looking for, the chain is shimano and it did this ever since then.

 

Makes no difference how dry / lubed, dirty / clean the chain and cassette and does it even when the chain line is dead straight (does get a bit worse as the chain line starts to angle), which makes me think that the sram cassette spacing is not optimal for use with a shimano chain?

 

Anyone else using a shimano chain with a sram cassette and noticed a similar thing?

I am on a Shimano 105 9sp bike (using an SRAM cassette) with no strange noises .... you sure it's not just your 'old' joints

On my Tri Bike I have a Sram 11-26 (Especialy for IMBC) as Shimano doesnt do that Ratio and I have no issues. a DA, RD and chain with SRAM Cassette and no issues

100% - no WHIRRRRRing on my mtb (also no sram).

My one knee could do with a fresh greasing tho

My bike came specced with Shimano drivetrain and a Sram cassette. Also, no noise whatsoever.

Tthought i could replace something...now I got fix something instead

Its also 9 spd Ultegra stuff with a sram cassette, not sure of the cassette other than its sram which is red on the side closest to the sprocket.
