Thanks Showtime. Walked around with a normal kit bag this weekend and it was a big schlep. Paying R900 bucks for an Orca or 2xu transition bag also doesn't really make any sense to me at this point

Well you wont be using the backpack as a transition bag. You get 3 huge draw-string plastic bags for each discipline to use during transition. You will definitely not get all your stuff into the backpack.

My mate is trying to con me into it.... I can't swim lekka and running sucks. The ride should be a piece of piss though wink.png

Your mate can stop trying as individual entries are sold out. Or he should try harder to get you into the full distance race devil.gif

Just for interest sake for the guys that participated in previous 70.3 Ironmans, what was the average time that it took to you finish each discipline?

+1 on that but let me add this - can you give us your cycle leg times vs your argus or 94.7 times so I can make some wild deductions from that on the sort of time I will likely do...

The bike course is not easy and not "piss". I got caught out by it last year. I went out to fast for the first 45km, thinking that the next 45km is down hill. By 40kms my legs were tired and the second half did not go as fast as I hoped. So a word of advise, do not go out to fast and rather ride within yourself then you will be able to take advantage of the "down hill" after 45km. Probably 10km/h faster that the first 45km, depending on the wind. I would say probably half an hour quicker than my Argus time would be acceptable, considering that its 20k shorter, but no drafting is allowed and there is the small matter of a half marathon to run after the bike.

I normally average ~34 km/h at the Argus, OFM that sort of thing. My 70.3 bike time was 3:10 for an average of 28.5 km/h. Because I only do this once a year it's difficult to pace oneself. You can't just ignore the run to follow.

This time round I will be aiming 3h cycle, 2h run, 40m swim plus transitions.

cool so you doing about a 3.20 Argus then, and your 3.10 bike is holding a bit back for the run? If so that gives me a pretty good starting point on what to expect...

I can not agree more with ADE. Don't underestimate the route or race profile you see on the web site.

This course tests you, in every way, to claim the prize of an Ironman 70.3 finisher.

Ive heard from three people (all Full IM finishers), they felt this course / event was harder than the full.

Also did the 1km swim. I was 3min faster than when I did it in December last year, so I am happy about that, but I got sick during the last 300 meters. Sorry to the guy who was behind meoops.gif

Yes that's the way I did it. Will try and push on to 3:00 for the next one.

Can anybody give us a 45km split time to make the 3:00 cycle please? I know it's weather dependant but on a good day how much faster is the return leg?

I did a 3:01 bike this year, 1:40 out and a 1:21 back. Did a 2:58 94.7 (mostly solo), so that should give you an idea of the 2 different bike legs.

How was the legs on the run after the 1:21 coming back on the bike?
